She’s done 59 performances of Azucena and 84 of Amneris at the MET since 1988 and that’s only about half of her appearances there. Also a dozen-and-a-half each of Santuzza and Eboli, a dozen of Adalgisa and Ulrica. Talk about powerhouse roles. The latest recording I could find online was 2016 in Il trovatore and she sounded fantastic. Unfortunately in that production she looked like Pagliacci’s mother gone to seed…
Fabulous career
Makes me sad, since I have seen probably all of her Met roles since the ’80s. She is no ordinary musician, and certainly no ordinary person. Thank you, Dolora. I will be at your farewell, as I was your debut…and grateful.
What a great Azucena she is! I don’t believe the number of her years at all.
