Happy news: Coloratura cancels rest of 2019
mainThe French soprano Sabine Devieilhe, hailed as the next Natalie Dessay, has torn up her diary for the rest of the year and for the happiest of reasons.
Sabine, 33, is expecting her second child.
Paris and Madrid will have to do some recasting.
Here’s what she says:
Sabine

No No No! No happy news on slippedisc.com. It is not allowed. And it’s probably true too. Shame!
She is absolutely terrific!

Does pregnancy affect the voice? I know some woman sing while pregnant.
I saw a fine Cenerentola with Florez and Kasarova in Pesaro in 1998. Kasarova was visibly pregnant (the WSJ stated she was seven months along) but her singing was marvellous (Florez as well by the way).
Wonderful news. It is an individual’s prerogative to decide whether or not to continue to sing. Whatever reasons she may have it is a private matter.
