Norway has designs for Shanghai’s grand opera house
mainWe reported last month on the completion of a new opera house at the Shanghai Conservatoire.
The city is now having another one built in the Expo Houtan district.
Snøhetta of Oslo are the designers. Here are some first pics.
Beautiful from the outside but what is the inside like – stage, dressing rooms, acoustics etc.?
They’ll probably be excellent. The Norwegians are no slouches.
I don’t know about the newest ones, but the backstage at the Oriental Arts Center is terrific (though you need a map to find your way around) and the hall is maybe the best I’ve ever played in, and Symphony Hall’s conductor’s room is as luxurious as any I’ve ever occupied — the hall is very good, too.
The steps are hardly practical for tanks to roll up and down on. And the white stones are hard to get blood stains off from crushed dissident bodies.
A tank won’t even notice those little steps.
I was wondering about wheelchair access rather than tanks. I hope there is an easy way for the disabled to attend opera.
