Maestro move: Latvian goes north
mainAndris Poga, music director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, is the new chief conductor in Stavanger, Norway.
Poga, 38, succeeds Christian Vasquez, who held the post for six years.
A winner of the Evgeny Svetlanov Conducting Competition in Montpellier, France, he has been Paavo Järvi’s assistant at the Orchestre de Paris and has also understudied at the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
