Kaufmann cancels Paris month

Jonas Kaufmann has not yet been given the clearance from his medical team to resume his professional activities. Unfortunately he must therefore withdraw from the performances of Tosca on May 25 and May 29 but hopes to return to the stage for the performances in June.
The role of Mario Cavaradossi will be performed by Marcelo Puente.
Tosca from 16 May to 23 June 2019 at the Opera Bastille.
I was sympathetic to Mr Kaufmann’s plight when it was explained that he’d choked on a piece of food (12 May), having experienced this myself. It’s now some two weeks later, however, with no sign of a return ’til June. This must surely be more than a scraped pharynx.

Choking on food or even dust on a stage which hasn’t been swept or sprayed can really irritate a singer’s throat and possibly lead to an infection. Also there is all sorts of pollen about at the moment which doesn’t help. So Mr Kaufmann is wise to listen to his doctor’s advice until this irritation subsides.
The strangest singer choking story I witnessed concerns the late and kindly French mezzo soprano Jocelyne Taillon- some may remember her, she recorded a lot. Poor Jocelyne choked on a fly she inhaled while singing in the beautiful Nocturne duet from Berlioz Beatrice et Benedict. The producer had decided to put a real lawn – actual grass – on stage and with the lighting effects all sorts of insects began to emerge. It took her a while to get over the vocal irritation.
Just to sayb that i spent all my savings to pay for the ticket,flight and hotel. I do not know if I really believe the coughing reason. Un any case,I am angry and disppointed . The reviews for vitorio were not good and that is what i will hear. i really want my money back and have nothing to do with Kaufmann again unless he invites me. i cannot afford it twice.
I might be sympathetic if I had not wasted more than a thousand euros on tickets and trip.
Dejar herr Kaufmann , if you happen to read this ,just know that it has been with great effort that I came to París. For me it was meant to be a once in a life experience. I cannot afford a second one,unfortunately. What else can I say? I am sorry for you and evento more forma myself
