Top violinist tours cathedrals to raise Notre Dame funds
mainThe leading French violinist Renaud Capucon tells us that he has quickly put together a tour of seven French cathedrals in the coming weeks to raise funds for the reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris.
Je donnerai une série de concerts dans des Cathédrales Française au profit de Notre-Dame dans les semaines à venir.
Dates and venues to follow.
His brother Gautier played yesterday outside Notre Dame.
Bravo Renaud!
And his brother Gautier Capuçon played the cello (Fauré) in front of Notre-Dame on the early morning after the fire, with the firemen still inside (see YouTube).
A fine gesture by Gautier Capuçon, but the lugubrious tempo reminds me of the recording made by Barbra Streisland. Fauré marked the tempo “Andantino”. I’ll now have to listen to Dame Janet singing it at the correct speed.
Well, the circumstance was not particularly merry…
Such a PR move … play in front of the cathedral and make sure the cameras see you act out. Bravo. Bravo.
Hope it was in tune – not his strongest point!
impossible to reach the power of message, charisma and presence of Rostropovich playing at the Berlin wall in 1989….
I would encourage musicians and others to raise funds for the other great gothic cathedrals in France which are in various states of disrepair. Let some good come from the catastrophe of Notre Dame!
The Capucon brothers are two of the finest musicians I have ever had the honor and good fortune to hear in person.
Their heartfelt gestures are touching and welcome.
Bravo, Capucons !
