Porgy takes top opera award
mainThe English National Opera staging of Porgy and Bess – an uncredited John Berry co-production with South African forces – deservedly won the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera last night.
Covent Garden’s production of Katya Kabanova won Best New Opera Production.
Important to note, of course, that the Olivier Awards are not international or even national awards – they’re purely a local thing, exclusively for London theatres.
This was an excellent production, nonetheless.
