The violist Vicki Powell, 30, has passed her probation as principal viola of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic.

‘Ecstatic!’ she exclaims.

The pay’s so-so, but the sailing’s terrific.

    It’s a great orchestra. Good for her. And it’s Stockholm; what’s not to like?

      Stockholm is lovely but the winters a quite long and it doesn’t get particularly warm in summer.
