Tchaikovsky names first brass jury
mainIan Bousfield, former principal trombone of the LSO and the Vienna Philharmonic will chair the first brass section of the Tchaikovsky Competition.
Other judges are the Croatian horn player Radovan Vlatkovic, Mariinsky trumpet Timur Martynov, and the Paris based trumpet virtuoso Sergei Nakariakov.
Bass? Brass, surely?
Fabulous! Bousfield is the best.
Big fan of Radovan Vlatkovic here! Great choice for this jury! He’s a superb player, legendary teacher and very nice person.
I like that they chose someone with such a strong interest in exploring new music, new composers.

They still need a tubist. Carol Jantsch, Principal Tuba of Phila would be amazing.
Oh won’t Mr. Williams happy! Imagine life without all those brass anthems!?
What’s Bousfield doing now, anyway? (apart from this, obviously.)
Primarily teaching in his adopted home, Bern. Pretty idyllic, I would imagine. He likes gardening.
As you seem unfamiliar with Google….apart from occasionally soloing and conducting, he has devoted most of his time to teaching (at the HKB in Bern and the RAM in London).
