Now it’s personal: Bryan Hymel cancels the Met
mainFrom the Gelb feed:
Bryan Hymel has withdrawn from Verdi’s Rigoletto, due to personal reasons. Francesco Demuro will sing the Duke on March 6, 9, 15, and 20; Matthew Polenzani will sing April 26, May 1, and 4; and Stephen Costello will sing May 10. #castchange

The American tenor, 39, had a hard run of cancellations last year. Last month in Paris he pulled out of Les Troyens ‘for family reasons’.
Hymel is American, not Canadian.
The writing has been on the wall for a while, in bright, pulsating neon.
Which is?
Aimee Aimee Semple McPherson.
You are at it again Mr Caravaggio!
I wonder what is really going on with Mr. Hymel. He has cancelled many engagements in recent seasons. I wanted to see him in this Rigoletto at the Met, but held off buying a ticket in case he cancelled. I am glad I didn’t buy ticket for it. At any rate, I wish him well and hope his “personal reasons” get better quickly.
Are his personal reasons ‘I don’t want to sing anymore’?
There has to be a larger world wide pool of tenors who can sing the Duke. I wouldn’t let one of those three tenors listed in the announcement paint my kitchen.
