Javier Menéndez, director of the opera in Oviedo, has been named head of the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville.
Menéndez, 47, is a former assistant to Joan Matabosch at the Liceu in Barcelona.
He has been in charge at Oviedo since 2003.
