Baton swoop: Londoner wins Swedish orchestra
mainRebecca Miller has been named chief conductor of the Uppsala chamber orchestra.
American born and married to the pianist Danny Driver, she is presently Director of Orchestras at Royal Holloway, University of London and Associate Conductor of the Southbank Sinfonia.
Londoner? No way – London-based but born in America
I’d like to think that a long-standing resident of London can be considered a Londoner, even if not born here.
Chris, if you read the post you’d see that Norman mentioned that she was American-born.
I read the post which is why I queried his description of her as ‘Londoner’, and why I changed it to be slightly more appropriate. Also although she studied in London for a while, she held posts in the USA between 2005 and 2010. I may be considered pedantic for making the point, but I still think of myself as being from the part of the UK where I was born, even though I have lived elsewhere in the UK for the last 60 years. Happy New Year!
Good for you that you consider yourself as being from the place you were born. But not everyone adopts this convention. The lady may well consider herself a Londoner even if she is not born there.
Does anyone recognise the background ?
Cologne , maybe?
Looks (to me) like Uppsala cathedral in the background.
Never heard of her. Definitely never worked with her – Abbey Rd, Air, Festival Hall, Barbican, BBC…whatever.
Norman likes to share every bit of news related to women conductors, no matter how trivial.
