UK early music chief gets US foothold
mainRichard Egarr, artistic director of the Academy of Ancient Music since 2006, has been recruited by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra as an artistic partner.
The SPCO has a team of artistic partners. Egarr joins Jeremy Denk, Martin Fröst, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Pekka Kuusisto and Jonathan Cohen at the top table.
Interesting – of course the late and much missed Chris Hogwood also had an appointment with the St Paul Chamber Orch in addition to his AAM work – there were a few (too few, actually) interesting recordings they made together
I thought he already had footholds in Seattle and Boston (Handel and Haydn Society). But you can never have too many feet in this business I suppose.
No formal position at Handel and Haydn, but annual appearances. I can only hope he will eventually succeed Harry Christophers. Under Christophers the H&H orchestra and chorus sound great in choral music.
Re Boston: you are confusing Richard with Harry Christophers.
