Who knew there are this many cellist in the world ?
I wonder what went into the decision to perch the front dozen of the 1000 players on a 4 inch riser.

Wow, only 2 posts today, and this one is the lead? Either NL is slacking or the classical music business is really, really dead today!
It *is* nice to give Rostro some attention. Not just one of the greatest of artists but a wonderful human being, too.
Some of us have forgotten but his heart and spirit were that large. Touching 1000 cellists gave him enormous pleasure. One they will never forget. I can’t imagine any other cellist doing this today and deriving such genuine pleasure in the process.
What was the piece?
I see to David Geringas there
Perching the front dozen players gives the people in the back the possibility of seeing their section leaders and honors them as well.
Thanks for this post, Mr. Lebecht.
