Metropolitan Opera goes talent hunting in Mexico
mainThe Met will stage National Council auditions for new singers in Mexico for the first time, in the second week of November.
Any Mexican singer aged 20 to 30 can apply. Winners of the auditions in San Miguel will go through to regional finals in New Orleans, and, if selected, to the semi-finals and finals in New York. There are major cash prizes at every stage.
So much for Trump’s wall.
Bravo to the Met. Things like this will trump any walls.
Some big Zarzuela project going on in the Met?
Only as dinner.
Zarzuela is Spanish. México has produced many fine opera singers over the years. Racist idiot.
(not that there’s really any other kind of racist…)
How about the stock photo chosen to represent this post? Tasteless at best……
Isn’t that Netrebko? And somebody-or-other?
Some of them, I assume, are good people.
Oralia Dominguez, Francisco Araiza, Belen Amparan, Arturo Chacon,
Javier Camarena, Ramon Vargas… all of them excellent singers!
Arturo Chacon is one dimensional at best. Always sounds strained IMO.
Atruro Chacon-Cruz is one dimensional at best. Always sounds strained IMO.
Brilliant plan. We only have to pay them ten dollars an hour plus lunch. This will allow us more money to waste on the Ring Cycle. I wish that I thought of this first.
Jeff,
Dave and I came up with this plan together. I think that you should just worry about how much money you can waste on the Ring Cycle.
