Rox Panufnik wins US orchestra commission
mainMarin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony have announced the world premiere in March 2019 of a work by the London-based composer Roxana Panufnik.
Also on Baltimore’s season schedule is the US premiere of a piece by UK composer Helen Grime.
I think you’ll find it’s ‘Roxanna’, not ‘Roxana’
Ms Panifnuk goes for modal pathos in a busy, and rather disorganized environment….

…. while Ms Grime seems to suffer from restless nights, delicately sublimated in colourful textures with a Boulezbian touch:

Conclusion: the females are not to be outdone by the male competition, and can do as well, so it would not make any difference if the usual contemporary music would be entirely replaced by female music.
PS: Sorry, ‘Panufnik’… distracted by the cat while typing.
If only her father’s music was getting performed as much. He was a major talent, now overlooked. At least she keeps the family name alive. Is her music nearly as good?
Thank you for acknowledging the great Andrzej Panufnik. I adored him. Concerto Festivo is one of my favorite works. So brilliant and kind.
No.

Yes, why does nobody play the violin concerto he wrote for Menuhin ?
Maybe because it is traditionalist, so performers may be too shy, afraid to be considered ‘conservative’ like Menuhin.
