Young Israeli is upgraded to GMD in Bremen
mainYoel Gamzou, hired last summer as music director of Theater Bremen, has been made Generalmusikdirektor and given a three-year contract extension.
Gamzou, 29, signed up last month with Michael Lewin’s agency in Vienna.
Amazing how quickly things can happen when an agent gets involved.
There is a long list now of impressive Israeli conductors:
Inbal*
Steinberg
Oren*
Fisch*
Ettinger*
Volkov*
Meir Wellber*
Shani
… judging from (*) work I have heard. Must be a result of prioritizing musical education in that small country, and of capable teachers.
All of these are middle of the road, not one of them being an exceptional musician.
Amazing how quickly things can happen when an agent gets involved.
You said it. Especially with certain Levin plants.
While Jewish people often display great talent and leadership, Israel has a population of over 8 million, so it is not surprising if they produce a few good conductors in every generation. And they do have at least one good music school.
