Terfel covers for Hvorostovsky at Tanglewood
mainpress release:
Bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel will replace baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky in the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Saturday, August 26, opera gala program at Tanglewood. Led by BSO Music Director Andris Nelsons, the program will feature Sir Bryn, soprano Kristine Opolais, and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus in an evening of opera and song. Further program details will be announced at a later date. Mr. Hvorostovsky withdrew from the concert in May for reasons of health.
If BT does well, this substitution might lead him to other good career opportunities…
It’s the next best thing to being married to the conductor.
I look at the incredible stature and career achievements of Mr. Terfel and Mr. Hvorostovsky, and then I look at your snarky comment. I think we both know who will end up being talked about in 100 years, and it won’t be you, NIK.
Both Terfel and Hvorostovsky are excellent, whose voices have brought great joy. But their voices are quite different. The point here with respect to Terfel replacing Hvorostovsky is that it is due to Hvorostovsky’s health possibly related to the suffering he’s endured secondary to the stress of the brain tumor he’s been in treatment for. I was so happy to have known that he was feeling well enough to schedule this concert at Tanglewood and upon learning he had to cancel was an enormous disappointment to me.
May both marvelous baritones be with us and performing many, many years.
I am sorry that DH was unable to perform because of his health, but his replacement by BrynTerfel was the best possible choice. I would love to hear his recital; he is my favorite singer.
