Schubert is reborn as a sand castle
mainThe East Neuk Festival 2017 is just finishing off its sand sculpture of Franz Schubert to tie in with this year’s Schubertiade.
Created by Claire Jamieson and Jamie Wardley of ‘Sand in Your Eye’ it was sculpted from 20 tonnes of sand on Crail High Street in the East Neuk of Fife in Scotland.

The Festival runs until Sunday 2 July
He looks like John Lennon!
The curious among you might wish to compare the sculpture to the rendering of the composer as a parade float constructed for the tenth Deutsche Sängerbundfest held in Vienna in 1928. The image was frequently reproduced in contemporary newspapers and can be found, for example, on page 13 of the July 26 edition of “Das interessante Blatt.”
