Just in: London theatre chief resigns
mainDavid Lan has resigned after 17 years as artistic director of the Young Vic.
He brought numerous directors to work in London for the first time, among them Patrice Chéreau, Luc Bondy, Ivo Van Hove, Benedict Andrews and Simon Stone.
Under David’s leadership, the Young Vic has been a cosmopolitan hub in London’s theatreland. We will need it more than ever after Brexit.

David, 65, has also been Consulting Artistic Director of the planned Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Centre at the World Trade Centre in New York.
David has done fantastic work but I’m pretty sure The Royal Opera brought the late Luc Bondy to London for Don Carlos several years before he directed at the Young Vic.
Quite right my mistake. Chereau, though, was unhired. I got to know him at the Young Vic.
That’s correct about Don Carlos
I can’t remember if that was originated at ROH or invited
Ruth Mackenzie brought Luc’s production of a Strindberg from Vienna to Nottingham when she was AD there
Luc did his first (and second) original theatre production for us at YV
