Michael L. Mael, executive director of Washington National Opera (WNO) for the past six years, announced today that he will leave the organisation in July.

Mael, who joined WNO as Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer in 2008, is credited with returning the company to financial stability after the 2008 crash and more than a decade of losses.

He was previously v-p of the Baltimore Symphony.

Where next?

Predicted this news when Shapiro stepped down. Only thing that seems odd is that the VP of government affairs is leaving also, and then the VP of marketing abruptly left a couple of weeks ago. And several staff in development and other staff have left as well. Departures are expected but in these numbers? This close together? Seems to be something in the water brewing there.
