Excellent move! TS is a superb conductor, nice human being – here’s hoping his presence will lift the presence and profile of a once mighty orchestra that used to have a superb profile but for years now has wandered aimlessly with middle of the road careerists sauntering in and out doing nothing remarkable and its programming being popsicles and appalling French contemporary compositions lauded by the French man with more hair than ideas or talent. Too long it’s been 2nd to the fantastic BBCSSO!
This a great move for the RSNO, in all his performances in recent seasons Thomas has been phenomenal in his conducting and has raised the level higher notably for the orchestra. This appointment will in my view be one of the most significant in the orchestra’s history, perhaps as momentous as that of Neemi Jarvi many years ago.
