Alma Deutschers Cinderella (28. January 2018 in der AGRANA STUDIOBÜHNE| WALFISCHGASSE; D: N. N.; R: Birgit Kajtna)
Alma Deutscher is 12 years old. Erich Wolfgang Korngold was 13 when his balet, The Snowman, was staged at the Vienna Opera, in the presence of the Emperor Franz-Josef.
So sad the Emperor will probably not make it this time.
He’ll be there in spirit. Just around the corner in the Kaisergruft.
He may already have been there in spirit, last year when Cinderella saw it’s German-language premier in Vienna.

He couldn’t come even if he was alive – he has no clothes.
This is a silly headline. I almost scrolled past the article until I realised that it’s about the season announcement.
The headline is quite correct; the person who composed the work was then and is still a child and the Vienna Opera [company] will stage it, although not on the stage of the actual Vienna State Opera house but at the 175-222 seat Agrana Theater around the corner.
I didn’t say that the information was wrong, but it is hardly the key event of the season. The headline makes it look like the article is mainly about Alma Deutscher’s ballet.
Die Zeit calls it an opera, Norman calls it an opera, you call it a ballet. You won’t be going, then?
At 11 or whatever she is, Alma Deutscher is still more mature than Charlotte Gill.
Der Schneemann will be a hard act to follow.
Let’s stop for a moment and remember Peter Schickele’s comments about the opera “Hansel and Gretel and Ted and Alice” by P.D.Q. Bach, which was commissioned by the Vienna Opera Company, run at that time by Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Vienna and their little boy Rudy…
Alma IS the new Erich Wolfgang Korngold!!!
Belated April’s Fools’ Day ?
Am I really the only one to find this an embarrassing joke? Can we please start speaking of “genius” when (if) she produces in some years something else than this childish uninspired Mozartian plagiarism?
