US conductor to lead Cuba’s national symphony orchestra
mainMarlon Daniel will conduct the National Symphony Orchestra in Havana on April 30.
Is he the first American since 1959 to lead Cuba’s premier classical ensemble?
Will Trump try to stop him?
No, there have been others. Among them, the American Bernard Rubenstein, who has conducted them on several occasions in the past 10-15 years. I’m sure there are others.
Norman, read your text about Marlon Daniel and the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba. Well, on November 13 2016 the conductor Tania León conducted that orchestra. She has lived in New York for fifty years although she was born in Cuba. I would say she is american by now. Don’t you?

Maestro Daniel is the first African American conductor to be invited to the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. And the first conductor to be invited after the embargo was lifted by President Obama.
