Prime minister announces death of chorus conductor
mainThe Latvian prime minister Māris Kučinskis has gone on Twitter to offer condolences on the death of Gido Kokars, who has died at the age of 95.
Kokars was a leader of the country’s phenomenal choral tradition.
Is there a prime minister of any other country who can even remember the name of a chorusmaster?
Yes, well, in my adopted country we have a president who wouldn’t even know what a chorusmaster means….
To Elena Newman:
You must live in Canada. You lucky dog.
I wish!
Edward Heath would have known…
…and Helmut Schmidt.
Silly of me to forget Herr Schmidt. Also, by the way, Jimmy Carter, who was a great fan of Robert Shaw [why not?].
And perhaps President Nixon, who loved classical music. He’d have been pleased to know that an opera was written about him.
