  • Halldor says:

Lovely chap, and a really engaging talent. Colin Davis rates him highly. He’s worked extremely hard to get this far – good call by the BBC Phil. Do we know of any other former tuba players in conducting positions?

    • GEllis says:

Bramwell Tovey, music director of Vancouver Symphony comes to mind!

    • Ruben Greenberg says:

Jacomo Bairos – a former tuba player is Music Director of Amarillo Symphony in Texas, as well as Director and co-founder of a successful ensemble called NuDeco based in Miami. He came to guest conduct some programs here in Atlanta and several other orchestras around the US.

  • Nigel Harris says:

    James Gourlay springs to mind.

  • Theo in Atlanta says:

Jacomo Bairos in the US is a former tuba player. He is currently Music Director of the Amarillo Symphony in Texas and is a frequent guest conductor with major American orchestras…
