Not your regular orchestra player (2)
mainSay hello to Jon Dante, principal trumpet of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, presently guest principal in Shanghai.
Jon, an old friend of slippedisc.com, found this message in his mailbox this morning:
I want to say thank you for showing that even people of badass seemingly unsophisticated nature (tattoos, skateboarding, motorcycling &c) CAN STILL KICK ASS IN THE CLASSICAL FIELD.
The first not-your-regular portait can be seen here. Keep the pictures coming in.
Singapore SO, that is!
Hope there are also oboe, viola and harp payers with tatoos. It’s starting to look as if it was brass only, and we tend to have reputation for being unruly anyway ….
Perhaps the reputation is not so much for ‘being unruly’, but rather for having a greater appreciation of less subtle forms of expression in general. Just by experiencing an orchestra warming up, one might already arrive at that idea …
“having a greater appreciation of less subtle forms of expression”
Beautifully put, Gerhard! May I quote you? 🙂
Be my guest!
The SFO harpist has quite some tattoos.
