Drugs company hands out Bruckner promo
mainIt is reported that the Dutch pharmaceutical company Dagra Pharma has been giving doctors free samples of Bruckner Third in an effort to persuade the to prescribe MS-Contin, a morphine derivative.
The performance is by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, conductor Rafael Kubelik.
Apparently, big Dutch pharma has a whole series of Gekwelde componisten, or tormented composers.
Allmost ALL composers in the Netherlands are tormented.
I never would have guessed.
By a lack of talent?
No, for living in the Netherlands.
The talentless composers are not tormented at all, since they are paid by the state.
As a biopharma industry insider, there’s something readily apparent about this story that needs to be said:
Why on earth would Dagra give out the 3rd symphony, instead of the 4th or the 7th?
Bruckner is utterly anodyne. The complete package for any stress.
You gotta be kidding me!!!!!
These drugs make it to the streets and RUIN cultures and entire communities.
Big Pharma is the scum of the earth
The connection with Bruckner is incomprehensible. Courting physicians has been the M.O. Of big pharma for a long, long time…but Bruckner?
Big Pharma is the scum of the earth.
MS-Contin and other oral opioids are excellent pain-relieving drugs to be used a short time after for example major orthopedic surgery. That ‘these drugs make it to the streets’, or that they can be prescribed to patients with the ‘wrong’ kind of pain, is an issue of for criminal law and for prescription regulation, respectively. I just hope to have these pharmaceuticals available if I broke my leg or something so.
The distribution of classical Music CDs for marketing promotional purposes is a lovable initiative.
If you break your leg…take a damn ibuprofen. Drugs such as MS Contin are for dire situations like people who cannot live and function with their pain and especially for those dying, to ease their pain as they DIE. It is such a drastic AND ADDICTIVE drug that responsible Physicians and pain management Dr.s only prescribe it for situations that are utterly devastating.
In the United States there is an epidemic stemming from big pharmaceutical incentivising Doctors to prescribe these pills. Read a newspaper. Try a book like these http://www.signature-reads.com/2016/03/4-books-to-help-you-understand-americas-opiate-epidemic/
Understand a little more about this issue and it may make a difference in the world.
I see junkies on the streets from Portland to Florida. Prague to Oslo! MS Contin is on par with Heroin. Check out the articles, please.
Bruckner? Pharma giving anything away to Dr.s. should be forbidden.
While being a great admirer of Bruckner, I recoil from the idea of abusing his legacy to try and get doctors to prescribe whatever pill because of it. What medication any doctor feels (s)he should prescribe you is what is best for you, not what gets him whatever gift or other perverse stimulus. Unfortunately, we have sold health care to pharmaceuticals and insurances, who are in happy and unholy incestuous marriages of convenience to squeeze the maximum of money out of people in exchange for as little real help as possible, and provide as much pressure onto doctors to prescribe as much pills as possible, be they useful or not (anymore) or harmful, for prices pushed into stratospheric ranges through all kinds of near-Maffiaesque tricks and legislative loopholes.
