A Silverstein student wins Enescu violin
mainGyehee Kim, 23, a South Korean student of the late Joseph Silverstein at Curtis, has won the violin section of the Enescu Competition in Bucharest.
Unusually, none of her teachers, past or present, were on the jury, which was chaired by Pierre Amoyal.
We congratulate her and the competition organisers.
A recipient of the Dounis pedagogy through Silverstein – good!
Absolutely deserved! All 3 finalists were standouts. Decision was 100% spot on, IMHO!
I was in the Jury of the Enescu this year and I can say that in the Finals she played a killer Tchaikovsky concerto, with big heart and warmth, sublime technically and like a great artist. What a delight.
Well done.

It’s ok, that honor went to the third prize receiver – with a not-so-killer Tchaikovsky, but still with a ticket booked into the final – former student of Amoyal himself.
