buon compleanno!
Although vitality was rarely lacking when RM was conducting the PO a performance of the Beethoven 5th, celebrating the inaugural celebration of the MLK birthday, stands out as an occasion when his normal balance between Furtwangler & Toscanini was clearly titled to the latter conductor. Obviously I’ll never know what if anything the occasion meant to him but the performance is one I’ll never forget and in my opinion has never been duplicated for intensity save for Toscanini’s after the fall of Mussolini. Happy birthday and many thanks for revitalizing the PO!!
Riccardo Muti I have seen twice at the Musikverein. There his Beethoven tempi were quite slow, disappointingly. Others commented upon this too. Otherwise, he’s a wonderful conductor and intelligent and glamorous man – and I hope he has many happy returns.
Norm, the Muti-meister doesn’t seem that happy to be with you in the pic.
You, on the other hand, look delighted!
Multi anni is hardly italian. In romanian it’s La multi ani. In italian it’s Tanti Auguri!
Happiest of Birthdays and MANY MORE of them, Maestro Muti! I am ecstatic that you are our CSO conductor.
75 anni ma un ragazzo bello…
