Death of Baroque maestro, aged 56
mainBrazilian media are reporting the untimely death yesterday of Nicolau de Figueiredo, conductor, harpsichordist, professor and all-round baroque enthusiast. No cause of death has been given.
UPDATE: A heart condition has been reported.
A student of Kenneth Gilbert, Gustav Leonhardt and Scott Ross, Nicolau worked with leading European ensembles, including Europa Galante, the OAE and Concerto Köln.
He made numerous recordings.
This is a huge loss. I know him for his wonderfully virtuosic and imaginative continuos in the Rene Jacobs’ Mozart opera recordings of Nozze and Cosi, to which he brought wit, life, intelligence and irreverence in spectacular succession.
Very sad news. I own a superb double CD, result of his partnership with cellist Dimos Goudaroulis, with a nice repertory of pieces for violoncello piccolo and harpsichord. An extract here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX2JBdxBiek
From what i can understand in this obituary he died from complications of an heart attack he had in nov 2015

It appears that Mr. de Figueiredo had been left in a weakened state of health as a result of the heart attack he suffered in November of last year and unfortunately died as a result of another heart attack he suffered 2 days ago (http://www.scherzo.es/content/ha-muerto-nicolau-de-figueiredo).
RIP
