He’s doing quite well with that! We might say his technique is similar to mallet percussion (xylophone, marimba) technique minus the actual mallets.
Looks like he’s got a couple of stubs he can alternate between for the fast notes.
It is spectacular, but not unusual: there are singers without voice, for instance, or pianists without brains.
That may be true, but singers without brains are still more common.
