Athens festival boss quits after ‘going Belgian’
mainThe multidisciplinary Belgian artist Jan Fabre has resigned as curator of this summer’s Athens and Epidaurus Festival. He had annoyed the locals by making ‘Belgian spirit’ the festival theme.
Fabre, 58, said he did not know much about Greek art but he knew lots of Belgians.
In a statement to the Belgian press he said: ‘I had accepted the proposal of the Ministry of Culture to make artistic choices freely. This does not seem possible in Greece.’
Greek media are in uproar.
