Opera calls in Chicago police over stolen instrument
mainPolice were called to the Lyric shortly before midnight last night. They are not naming the instrument that’s missing.
Let’s hope it’s not another Steinway grand being walked out of the artists’ entrance – as happened twice at London’s South Bank.
The article states that it’s a patron’s viola checked in the coatcheck area, not an opera musician’s instrument stolen from backstage. The headline is somewhat misleading.
Allegedly stolen
The viola was later seen running through the Loop and gunned down with 32 shots by the Chicago Police Department. A spokesman for the Police Department stated the instrument was acting ‘erratically’ and the officer was afraid of what the instrument was attempting to pull out of the case. The post-mortum revealed is was a half-used rosin cake.
