Simon Keenlyside makes recital return but cancels another opera
mainThe popular British baritone, who has suffered more than a year of ill-health, made a welcome return at Wigmore Hall on Sunday night, without attracting press attention.
From social media responses, it seems to have gone well.
However, Simon has announced his withdrawal from all Munich performances of Un ballo in maschera for the rest of this year.
We wish him a continued recovery.
Much as I revere him as an artist, he had only himself to blame for a large part of his vocal problems by singing outside his natural ‘fach’…he was never, is not, and will never be a ‘verdi’ baritone…
Utter rubbish. Simon is a close personal friend of mine (we were speaking only today) and I can assure you that his indisposition is down to a health issue which has nothing whatsoever to do with his voice. I can’t normally be bothered with the nonsense frequently posted in this comments section, but that is patent rubbish and can’t be left unanswered.
“..without attracting press attention.” Only if your definition of ‘press’ is restricted to newspapers!
