Rox gets her first UK opera commission
mainRoxanna Panufnik has been commissioned to write a ‘people’s opera’ for the 2017 Garsington Festival, it was announced today. Silver Birch will be sung by professional singers with community and children’s choruses.
Rox is the daughter of the Anglo-Polish symphonist Andrzej Panufnik and prolific explorer of religious themes. She and I have worked together on The Song of Names oratorio.
A “people’s opera”. For the most snooty country-house black-tie opera set-up in Britain. I see.
I’m bally sure it will be a simply topping triumph with Tristram, Rebecca, Cressida, and Hugh. Then it’s off in the Range-Rover down to the Jolly Stockbroker’s to quaff a tipple of St-Emilion, eh?
Toodle-pip, All! ))
Goodness, how many chips do you have on how many shoulders?
Firstly great that a new opera has been commissioned… Secondly that it should be Roxanna who received the commission … And lastly, let’s all get behind the good news rather than poopoo it……
All music is written for people. (Except probably…. no, I’l stop here.)
