A Boston benefit for Syrian refugees
mainOur friend Joel Cohen has put together one of the first US musical fundraisers for victims of the civil wars in Syria and Iraq.
It’s at 8:00 PM on October 23rd at Harvard’s Memorial Church.
Do try to be there.
Joel talks about it here.
The mission of Camerata Mediterranea is to create exchanges and to improve understanding among “Euro/American” and “Eastern/Middle Eastern” civilizations and cultures via the art of music.
Especially beautiful here is that a Jewish musician is performing a benefit concert for Arabic refugees. Another interesting connection is that Cohen is an early music specialist. Medieval European music was profoundly influenced by Islamic civilization. Some go far as to say it owes is very existence to the Arab world of the time. Many thanks to Mr. Cohen.
Byzantine rather…
Byzantine, Arabic, ancient Jewish, medieval — there are indeed many links and interconnections! Thanks for the kind words.
