Record deal: Warner sign young leftie
mainThe British pianist, Nicholas McCarthy, who was born without a right hand, has been signed to Warner Classics.
Nicholas, 26, will record arrangements by Paul Wittgenstein, and some of his own, for release in September.
And a Nocturne by Nigel Hess, being commissioned especially for the album.
But have they heard him?……..!
I hope he will not play Wittgenstein’s “arrangement” of Ravel’s left hand Concerto!
He’s really something — a nice coup. And he’ll be a good prompt for the creation of more LH rep for piano. It’s a good thing he’s a natural late Romantic stylist; if he had a natural bent for Baroque, he’d be in a bad way, but he’s got a nice, almost aristocratically “casual” style that’s just right for the sort of rep he’d play.
