The basilica of Saint-Donatien in the city of Nantes caught fire soon after mass this morning.
The pictures are heart-rending.

It is not the cathedral.
Indeed, it’s a 19C basilica. It burned nonetheless.
When I was studying architecture history I couldn’t help but notice that the phrase “destroyed by fire” was surprisingly common for structures made primarily of stone and metal.
