Berlin clears its screens for an announcement
mainWe don’t know yet if it’s going to be coronation of a music director or abdication, but this message has just landed from the Berlin Phil:
Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,

Für diejenigen unter Ihnen, die nicht persönlich anwesend sein können, wird der Termin live und kostenfrei in der Digital Concert Hall (www.digitalconcerthall.com ) übertragen.
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
the Berliner Philharmoniker invite you to a press conference today at 13.00 h in the foyer of the Philharmonie Berlin with our orchestra board and general manager. For all of you, who cannot be here in person, this press conference will also be streamed live and free in the Digital Concert Hall (www.digitalconcerthall.com).
Mit freundlichem Gruß,
With best regards,
You can follow the story all day on Slipped Disc.
It’s got to be it. Keep your fingers at the ready, Norman – we want to hear it quickly!
I like the regular pattern in the cultural geography of their choice.
After German chief conductors up until Karajan, they looked south to Abbado for some lightness of being, after that more lightness of being combined with a mass-media-smart Brit.
Now Russian depth and earthy sonic richness, before everything falls apart in wishy-washy global mainstream.
It could be therapeutic.
If they can overcome their bid individual egos and form an orchestra that is more than the addition of its single players.
correction for the Beckmessers: Austrian/German chief conductors
My fly on the wall says the orchestra is going to be disbanded and all players sent into therapy.
It’s Kirill Petrenko as MD. Just been announced on Bayerischen Rundfunk.
