This orchestra lives and works on an impoverished housing estate
mainThe BBC has a business story about the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, which moved its rehearsal rooms to a sink estate on the outskirts of Bremen.
Since then the school’s results have improved, its drop-out rates have fallen to less than 1% and the atmosphere in the wider neighbourhood has been “transformed”.
Read all about it here.
Great that the BBC have picked up the story. During the time Alexander Shelley was with the orchestra in 2011 ZDF did a good feature about the orchestra’s work in Tenever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9vESnky_fM
Truly inspiring story. I am convinced that this admirable undertaking has definitely changed many of these young people’s lives for the better (not to mention transforming the region), which otherwise would not have happened. The inherent good of good music making… There needs to be a lot more like this, maybe this is the only way classical music can go now – ensuring ever more young listeners/participants, this way classical music will survive. Spread the word… 🙂
But do any of those kids now buy classical music?
