System shock as Conservatoire chief fails to take office
mainProfessor Jörg-Peter Weigle was announced in April as the next head of the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, a major international conservatory. Weigle, 61, had been its Rektor since 2008 and was due to take office on September 1.
On the day, apparently, he failed to show.
The institution has now announced he has resigned on health grounds.
We wish him well.
Weigle was principal conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic 1986-94 and Generalmusikdirektor of the Stuttgart Philharmonic, 1995-2002.
