German to head UK orchestra
mainIn a rare cosmopolitan move, the Royal Northern Sinfonia has appointed Thorben Dittes as its next director, and as head of classical music at Sage Gateshead.
Dittes, 35, has been in charge of the Glasgow-based Scottish Ensemble for the past four years. He joins incoming music director Lars Vogt.
A rare cosmopolitan mood? Apart from the orchestra’s various associations with Rudolf Schwarz, Heinrich Schiff, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Tamás Vásáry, Iván Fischer, Thomas Zehetmair and Mario Venzago, you’re completely spot on.
Rare as executive director. You’re being obtuse.
Thorben worked with me at the Association of British Orchestras and has done great work with the Scottish Ensemble. This is a terrific move for him and a sound appointment by the NS! Congrats to all.
