Opera festival declares insolvency
mainAustria’s St. Margarethen opera festival has gone bankrupt, with four million Euros owed and 16 staff about to be sacked.
Assurances are being given that next week’s Aida in a Roman quarry will go ahead, and there’s talk of a rescue operation by local interests, but this is a serious confidence blow to the country’s opera infrastructure. UPDATE here.
