Maestro moves: Spaniard beats American to lead Luxembourg orch
mainGustavo Gimeno is to be the new chief conductor of the Luxembourg Philharmonic, succeeding Emanuel Krivine.

Gimeno has been rising all year like a comet. A percussionist in the Concertgebouw, he stood in several times for Mariss Jansons and has been hotly fancied for several vacancies. Luxembourg is rich and has a terrific hall. Can he bring it to life?
I had the chance to attend the MunichPhil concert in Frankfurt last week, where Gimeno stood in for Maazel – terrific. And, as far as I was told by someone who knows the orchestra very well, the musicians love him.
