Richard Hayman, who used to make arrangements for Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops, has died at 93, a year after his retirment.

He founded the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s pops concerts and conducted them for three decades in spangly jackets.

He was also a&r chief for Mercury Records. Helluva nice guy, say his musicians.

The announcement was made by the mayor, it’s that important. Three suspects are under arrest.

Our congratulations to the Milwaukee Police. Our delight for Frank Almond.

Our suggestion for the judge: sentence them to ten years in a Russian conservatoire.

The Russian press are reporting that the new music director, Tugan Sokhiev, has chosen one of Tchaikovsky’s less-known operas to open his first season in September.

The tradition, lapsed in recent years, is that the Bolshoi must open with a Russian work. In Soviet times, it was always Ivan Susanin, by Glinka.
