Breaking: Wales could lose its main concert hall
mainCardiff Council, its budgets squeezed by £50 million further cuts, says it cannot afford to maintain St David’s Hall, the nation’s main orchestral venue. The council’s chair of finance says he is seeking an outside operator to take over the hall and he’s not hopeful of finding one.
St David’s which seats 2,000, receives £1.2 million in council subsidy a year. Report here.
May we have it in London if the Welsh do not want this fabulous hall any more?
The trouble is unless there is a choir the Welsh don’t turn up.
I think you have more than your fair share of subsidised halls and opera companies as it is. Or perhaps you are willing to pay for it yourself
My wife and I heard a concert there some years ago. Wonderful acoustics!
How dismal. Things are becoming more London-centric, not less.
