Congratulations to Vasily Petrenko and his wife Evgenia on the birth ofย Anna Petrenko, born in Wirral on Tuesday evening, weighing 6lb 9oz. She is the couple’s second chld, after a son, Sasha.
Vasily, music director in Liverpool and Oslo, was recently in trouble for making anti-feminist comments. We feel sure that Anna will set him right.
Hopefully she will become a great conductor in the future…

It is a rainy day in the year 2020 and Vasily, now principal conductor of the MAN-hattan Symphony orchestra asks his 7 year old daughter ‘What would you like to be when you grow up Anna?’
‘I’d like to be a great conductor just like you daddy’ says Anna without a moment’s hesitation.
Vasily replies ‘Anna be serious now- what would you like to be when you grow up!?’
Before our American friends ask where is Wirral, we say ‘on the Wirral’ up here in Merseyside like you say on the Isle of Dogs down South in the East End. The Wirral is a peninsula in North West of England, with the River Dee, forming a boundary with Wales, to the east River Mersey and to the north by the Irish Sea! You can’t be born in a penninsula no more than you can be born in the Isle of Wight ๐ You learn something new every day about England ๐ – I’m smiling ๐
This means she is a scouser like Simon Rattle. Although strictly speaking she should have been born in the city of Liverpool for this title.
