Plus an arm and a leg
mainSony have announced the signing of the fine Georgian soprano Nino Machaidze, a hit at La Scala in Fille du Régiment (Donizetti) and in Salzburg in Roméo et Juliette (Gounod). She is presently singing Gilda at the Met.
I wonder if those ever-so nice folk at Sony will be creaming off 12 percent of her stage fees, as they try to do with all new signings. What’s ‘pound of flesh’ in Georgian?
I saw Ms. Machaidze in the Salzburg “Romeo et Juliette” at a movie theater in the USA, thanks to those nice people at Emerging Pictures. I was extremely impressed. The Waltz from that production turns up on YouTube, if anyone wants a taster.
