BBC I-player is down. Bad news for the Proms.
mainThe BBC i-player has been largely shut down by what is described as a ‘technical problem’.
The BBC press office said it was ‘some people cannot access certain parts of BBC online ..We are working hard to fix this as soon as possible.’
An ever-increasing proportion of the Proms audience accesses the concerts via the i-player.
I wonder if the BBC are bracing themselves for protests along the lines of the ones against the IPO. Of course this is bad luck, because Gergiev and the WPO were booked long before the situation in the Ukraine blew up, but Gergiev has become ever more of an embarrassment and I imagine that the LSO will be glad to see the back of him. He’s the Luis Suarez of the music world – brilliant, but comes with a hell of a lot of baggage.
Actually it is difficult to access other parts of the website as well.
Problems were obvious on the morning of Sat 19 July, particularly with the iPlayer videos. Access using the NowTV (Roku) box has been largely impossible for the last 2 days. Sometimes videos are playable via the pc web browser but there are numerous issues with the site which vary from hour to hour. Error messages may appear but sometimes even these are unavailable.
Seems to be back in working order now.
